The March of Dimes Nurse of the Year Awards celebrate outstanding nurses across the United States who exemplify excellence, compassion, and dedication in the field of healthcare. Each year, the campaign recognizes nurses at both the state and national levels, highlighting those who have made a profound difference in patient care and community well-being.
To manage this high-impact recognition program efficiently and fairly, the March of Dimes partnered with Reviewr to modernize and automate the full award process — from public nominations through final national judging.
Managing a large-scale, multi-state awards program posed several challenges:
Without a dedicated system, the process would have required countless emails, manual data compilation, and potential security and fairness risks.
The March of Dimes implemented Reviewr’s award management software to power every stage of the Nurse of the Year Awards, delivering a seamless, secure, and equitable experience for nominators, nominees, and reviewers alike.
1. Streamlined Two-Step Nomination Workflow
The nomination process began with an open, low-barrier online form designed to encourage public participation. Once submitted, Reviewr automatically notified the nominated nurse via email and connected them to their anonymous nomination.
The nominee then completed a detailed questionnaire within Reviewr, providing personal insights, experiences, and supporting information. Reviewr automatically merged the nominator’s submission with the nominee’s responses into a virtual nomination packet — creating a single, complete record for review.
2. State-Level Organization and Access Control
Reviewr automatically routed submissions to the appropriate state group based on the nominee’s location. Each state had access only to its own nominations and review data, ensuring privacy and operational independence.
At the same time, national administrators maintained full oversight through Reviewr’s dashboard analytics, providing visibility into participation, progress, and scoring across all states.
3. Fair and Unbiased Review Process
All identifying information was automatically redacted, ensuring that reviewers could focus on the content of the nomination rather than personal or professional relationships.
Reviewr’s randomized assignment engine distributed packets evenly and anonymously among volunteer judges, ensuring each nomination received a balanced number of evaluations while preventing reviewer fatigue or uneven workloads.
4. Multi-Phase Advancement and National Review
After state-level judging concluded, Reviewr automatically advanced top finalists to the National March of Dimes selection committee. National judges accessed only finalist packets, complete with merged and redacted data, for final review and scoring.
This workflow maintained consistency and fairness across states while simplifying administration for both local chapters and the national office.

By leveraging Reviewr, the March of Dimes transformed its Nurse of the Year Awards into a modern, transparent, and equitable recognition program that celebrates nursing excellence across the country.
The automated two-step nomination and review process reduced administrative burden, empowered judges with fair and balanced tools, and provided nominees with an intuitive, high-quality submission experience.
Through this partnership, the March of Dimes strengthened its mission to honor those who lead with compassion, expertise, and commitment, while setting a new national standard for efficient and impactful award management.
